The Shammy Picks: Week 7

Well it’s not the home run the Shammy was looking for this week, but it was a definite double off the wall.  We finished the week with a winning record, but betting as many games as we did, Vegas only lost a few bucks.  But after the massacre last week, we will take it.  Here is how our week went:

Nebraska (-11.5) @ Kansas State Win. And how.  A couple people were ragging on the Shammy for this pick, but Martinez came through for me with a huge game.

Oklahoma St. (-24) @ UL-Lafayette Win. I snuck this win out.  Is snuck even a word? Who cares.  OSU covered on the last drive of the game, and even though the line moved to -22.5, I still got it.

Minnesota (+21.5) @ Wisconsin Win. Another close call with this one, but credit the bad Wisconsin D for this one.

Alabama (-6.5) @ South Carolina Loss.  Ugh, there goes my National Championship pick.  But I still have Oklahoma. . .

Arkansas @ Texas A&M (+8) Win. Did I say that I thought that the Razorbacks were going to win by a touchdown? No? Well, that’s what I meant.

Michigan State (+5) @ Michigan Win. Thank you Wolverine D.  Again.

LSU @ Florida (-6.5) Loss.  Well, that one shut me up.  I guess Tebow actually did something for the Gators.

USC @ Stanford (-9.5) Loss.  Right team, wrong spread.  But I always smile with Lane gets a ‘L’.

Oregon (-35.5) @ Washington St. Loss.  Can someone please tell WSU that if they aren’t going to win, that they need to stop covering? Please?!?

Toledo @ Boise State (-39) Win. Now there is a team on a mission.  Will be picking them more often.

San Jose State @ Nevada (-38.5) Loss. Just not enough on offense to cover the spread.  Noted.

Last Week: 6-5 (54.5% ACC, 104.1% ROI)

Overall:  24-29-4 (45.6% ACC, 87.4% ROI)

Well, since we have improved our record each week we have had good weeks with our mascots leading us into battle, and since we are all Braves fans, we will let our former coach (still hard to say) Bobby Cox do the honors this week.  Hope we don’t let him down.

South Florida @ WVU (-10.5); Thursday 7:30pm

Everyone is picking USF to cover this spread and might have gone along with them, but USF is 1-4 against the spread this year and although USF is a great defensive team, I think the tandem of Geno Smith and Noel Devine will be too much for the Bulls at home.  Shammy sez: WVU

Boston College @ Florida State (-22); Saturday noon

You want to be the best in the ACC, you need to take care of bad teams at home.  And right now BC is a bad team.  They have no clue of what to do at quarterback or on offense.  And if NC State can hold them down, so can the Noles. Shammy sez:  FSU

Iowa (-3) @ Michigan; Saturday 3pm

Well, Robinson struggled against solid defensive teams, and this is a solid defense team.  Plus Iowa likes to but a few touchdowns on the board and then just give it to the amazing running game to kill the clock.  This would be a signature win for DR, but it’s not going to happen this year. Shammy sez: Iowa

Oklahoma St. (+3.5) @ Texas Tech; Saturday 3pm

***Upset Special*** I am contractually obligated to have an upset special each week and this one seemed the most logical one, since this match up looks to be high flying on both sides.  But I equate the Raiders D to the Michigan D, so I’ve got to go with the Boys.  Shammy sez:  OSU

Arkansas (+4) @ Auburn; Saturday 3pm

***Upset Special*** Now you must commit me to the loony bin right now.  Now I know that Mallet isn’t going to win the Heisman, but he still puts up big numbers and heading to Texas and beating A&M was a big feat.  Auburn should not be looking past these guys.  Shammy sez:  Arkansas.

BYU @ TCU (-29.5); Saturday 4pm

Usually you look for the offense to put up all the points in large spread games, but TCU’s D should have at least one pick six in this one.  And I said never again to BYU.  Shammy sez: TCU.

Utah (-20.5) @ Wyoming; Saturday 6pm

Really, you want me to talk about this pick? Um…Utah good.  If Wyoming scores, it should be a holiday in Laramie.  Shammy sez: Utes

Ohio St. (-3.5) @ Wisconsin; Saturday 7pm

The Badgers D got exposed in the Michigan State game, and nothing is slowing down the Buckeye offense, so unless Clay get 12 points a touchdown, this one shouldn’t be close.  Shammy sez: OSU

Arizona @ Washington St. (+23.5); Saturday 7pm

If you can’t win against them, win with them.  In no way will WSU win this game, but they seem to cover, especially against strong O teams like UCLA and Oregon.  So instead of trying to fight it, I’ll go with them this week.  Shammy sez: Cougars.

Boise St. (-39.5) @ San Jose St.; Saturday 8pm

Not picking against BSU.  Not now, not never.  And I don’t care if SJSU ruined that Nevada game last week, I’m calling that a fluke.  Shammy sez: Broncos

Ole Miss @ Alabama (-21); Saturday 12:30pm

Everyone is counting out Alabama, except Alabama.  The outside chance at a National Championship is not out of the question, and they will get a chance to prove that against Ole Miss who is coming off their best win of the season.  I’m smelling another push.  Shammy sez: Alabama
